Are there limited places to attend Camp Fearless 2024
Yes, we recommend registering early. Registration will close when camp capacity is reached.
My child needs help with their medication. How will I be sure they get them as required?
All medications will be collected at the start of camp and dispensed and recorded by our nursing staff. Do not send any loose or un-labelled medication to camp. Medications need to be sent to camp in their original bottles or packaging. If medication is received by our medical team, not in its original packaging, it will not be dispensed. If your child has supplementary drinks, you will need to provide these as well.
Can my child be provided with their restricted or special diet?
We can cater for all dietary restrictions and special diets, eg gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, vegan, and we can accommodate campers on supplemental drinks. If you would like to discuss the dietary requirements of your child, please email [email protected]
What Happens if my child gets sick during camp?
There will be a nurse present on camp as well as first aid camp staff. Parents will be notified of any illness of their child. A gastroenterologist will be on-call for phone advice and a hospital is located within 15 minutes of the camp.
Can parents or siblings stay throughout the camp?
The camp is intended as an opportunity for children/teens to develop independence as person living with IBD. Accordingly, parents and siblings cannot remain at camp. If you have concerns about how a child/teen may cope with this, we have strategies to support young people which we can discuss with you before registration. We do plan to have a lunch for parents/families on Sunday for families who will be picking up camp participants from the site.
My child has never been away from home. What happens if he/she gets homesick?
Being away from home for the first time can be difficult for some children, but this experience fosters growth, self-confidence, and independence. Our staff has experience with dealing with this issue and each situation will be handled on an individual basis.
Can my child bring their cell phone or other electronic devices?
Cell phones and other electronic devices may be bought to camp, at your own risk. CCA will not take responsibility for any personal items that are stolen, lost or damaged while at camp. Without the distraction of cell phones, campers’ bond with new friends and get the most out of the camp experience. All cell phones and other electronic devices will be collected at the start of activities and returned at certain times during camp i.e. free time.
My child is travelling without their parents. How will this be handled?
Children aged 12 and over are considered adults by airline ticketing standards, but parents can specifically request an unaccompanied minor service for children aged 12 to 15. If your child is aged between 12 and 17 years and comfortable travelling alone, you can request they’re identified as a Young Passenger travelling alone by calling your local Qantas office.
In the case of two or more campers traveling from the same interstate location, an arrangement will be made so that they can travel together. Additionally, interstate campers will be picked up by CCA-selected volunteers and transported to the campsite. On Sunday afternoon, attendees traveling interstate will be transported to the airport, and a volunteer will stay with them until they go through the departure gate.
