Helen’s Story

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at the age of sixty.  My condition was picked up following a positive government issued bowel screening.  I had absolutely no idea what ulcerative colitis was at that stage so my journey with living with this disease began. I live in a regional city in New South Wales and know the difficulties in finding the expertise of professionals to support you in your journey. I know only too well how difficult it is to live with the uncertainty of this disease and how valuable support is when so many unknowns occur. I have been on the medication merry go round when searching for a medication that works for you. I exercise regularly and find it helps me both mentally and physically and allows me the space to relax and reflect. I am more than happy to be a small part in this fabulous initiative and offer my experience and support to others who may be going through a journey similar to mine!!
