Your symptoms could be caused by Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis or Microscopic Colitis, forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). But these symptoms can be common in other conditions.
Your GP will need to rule out other conditions such as haemorrhoids (piles), coeliac disease, some types of cancer, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and infections.
It’s likely you’ll have an examination, poo (stool) tests and blood tests. Your GP may need to refer you to a hospital for more specialist tests.
You must get your symptoms checked. The sooner you are diagnosed the sooner you can start treatment to help you feel better. And the first step is making an appointment with your GP.
