Other types of IBD
IBD Unclassified
- People are diagnosed with IBD unclassified when it isn’t clear if they have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.
- Common symptoms of IBD unclassified include abdominal pain and diarrhoea with blood.
- IBD unclassified is most commonly diagnosed in children.
- There are not many clinical trials that focus on treating IBD unclassified so in many cases the disease will be treated in a similar way to ulcerative colitis.
Microscopic colitis
- Microscopic colitis is a less common inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes inflammation in the large intestine.
- Watery diarrhoea is the main symptom of microscopic colitis.
- Inflammation caused by microscopic colitis cannot be seen with the naked eye – tissue from the gut must be examined under a microscope.
- There are medicines and lifestyle changes to reduce or remove microscopic symptoms. You should always talk with your doctor about what you are using.
