Kelly’s Story: Living Life to the Fullest

Kelly was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at just 14 years old. While living with a chronic illness brought many challenges throughout her life, those who knew Kelly would tell you that Crohn’s disease never defined who she was.
From a young age, Kelly was determined to make the most of every opportunity. She had a wonderful mind, a kind heart, and an adventurous spirit. Despite regular hospital visits and ongoing health challenges, she approached life with remarkable strength and resilience.
Kelly loved travelling and creating memories with the people she cared about most. Over her 43 years, she explored many parts of Australia and travelled overseas to destinations including New Zealand, Fiji, the United States, Vanuatu and Japan.
She embraced every adventure she could, travelling on The Ghan, hot air ballooning, snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, hiking Fitzroy Island, swimming with dolphins and experiencing all that life had to offer. These experiences brought her immense joy and reflected her determination to keep living fully, no matter what obstacles she faced.
Family was at the centre of Kelly’s world. She was deeply loved by her family and treasured every moment spent with her nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed celebrating life’s milestones with family and friends, attending birthdays, weddings and social gatherings whenever she could. Her warmth, generosity and gentle nature touched everyone around her.
Although living with Crohn’s disease was not always easy, Kelly never wanted to be seen as a victim of her condition. Time and again, she found the strength to pick herself up, keep moving forward and focus on the things that mattered most to her. Her courage and determination remain an inspiration to those who knew and loved her.

Kelly passed away at the age of 43 from unrelated health conditions. Her family miss her deeply every day, but they continue to celebrate the extraordinary life she lived and the lasting impact she had on so many people.
For anyone facing challenges with Crohn’s disease or IBD, Kelly’s family hope her story serves as a reminder to keep fighting, keep finding moments of joy, and remember that your condition does not define who you are.
“Kelly lived a life filled with love, adventure and courage. We hope others can draw strength from her fighting spirit and continue moving forward, even during the toughest times.” (Kelly’s mum Robyn)
